Cape Verde is an archipelago of volcanic origin, although this condition is especially evident on the island of Fogo<\/a>. Not in vain, its name is no coincidence, as Fogo means “fire”. On this island there is a proliferation of volcanic landscapes, those that will make you feel like you are on another planet. For a volcano to be classified as active means that it can erupt at any time, despite how dormant it may seem. That is what happened that morning in November 2014<\/a>. Pico do Fogo erupted again after 19 years without doing so. The lava affected mainly the town of Cha das Caldeiras, located at the foot of the volcano, sweeping away everything in its path. <\/p>

Fortunately, there were no deaths, although there was considerable damage, especially in the neighboring towns.<\/p>

This is, without a doubt, an excursion that has become increasingly popular among the most adventurous travelers. <\/p>

The caldera of Pico do Fogo has an extension of about 8 kilometers, so the trekking in the vicinity of the volcano will take a good part of the day. However, the views and the feeling of being on the roof of Cape Verde will compensate the effort. <\/p>
