Do I need a visa to enter the country?

For tourists residing in the EU is not required to obtain any visa and entry is free. However, it is mandatory to make an online registration of travelers and pay the entry fee (about 32 €).

We tell you how to register online as a traveler:

Very important. Since 2020 it is mandatory to do the process online. However, it is very simple. We tell you about it. This process must be done at least 5 days before arrival in Cape Verde.

  1. Log on to https://www.ease.gov.cv/ and click on “Pre-registration of travelers”.
  2. Fill in your details, it will take less than 5 minutes and will require confirmation by email.
  3. In the last part of the process you will be able to pay the fee of about 32€ comfortably with your credit or debit card.
  4. You will receive a receipt at the e-mail address you have indicated. Save the email and print a copy for more security.
  5. On the day of your arrival, they will have your details; simply show the receipt to the authorities and your entry to Cape Verde will be guaranteed.

It is an agile process similar to the one offered in the United States for access as a tourist. You simply need to have your passport, your e-mail and a payment card.

Who is waiting for me when I arrive in Cape Verde?

Once you arrive in Cape Verde, have collected your checked luggage and passed passport control, our guides will be waiting to welcome you and answer any questions you may have. You will recognize it by the sign with our logo and your name written on it. Then, together with our driver, we will transfer you to the reserved hotel.

VERY IMPORTANT: if you do not find the guide or driver, after having checked the terminal, do not leave the airport without informing us through the assistance phone number. (+238) 993 07 88

Later on, in the transfers during the trip or programmed activities, the guides or drivers may be waiting for us at the hotel reception or outside at the agreed time. In case they are not there, it is important to apply the same protocol and always notify the assistance telephone number (+238) 993 07 88.

How can I purchase a SIM card?

To have calls and data on your cell phone, we recommend getting a SIM card from one of the Cape Verdean telephone companies: Unitel CV or Telecom CV.

You will find their stores at international airports, so on your arrival in the country, you can go to the stands of these companies at the airport. Both companies offer SIM cards with a fast and economical operation.

You will be able to recharge in the main towns of practically all the islands of the archipelago.

You can find offers of 200 minutes of voice + 1Gb of data from about 5€. In terms of coverage and internet; most of the accommodations have free wifi in the common areas of the hotel. In many squares of the towns or cities we can also find this service for free. In rural areas and valley bottoms it will be very difficult to have coverage and good internet speed.

How much cash do I need on a day-to-day basis?

Although Cape Verde is an African country, we should not make the mistake of thinking that everything will be much cheaper than in Spain or the rest of Europe. We should calculate between 30 and 50 € per person per day for expenses (lunch and dinner not included, drinks during the day, some cab, some shopping…).

We recommend withdrawing cash directly at the ATMs that are available in the different cities, being easy to find and very simple to operate. We also recommend withdrawing small amounts to cover 2 or 3 days, no more, as in almost all locations (except Cha das Caldeiras and Tarrafal Monte Trigo) it will be easy to find ATMs.

It is also worth noting the growth of card payments in recent years. It is a process that is in an expansion phase and it is now much more common to be able to pay by card in different establishments such as bars, restaurants or stores. One more reason to withdraw money in small amounts.

How do restaurants work in Cape Verde?

In your online folder you have a detailed document with the best restaurants and bars on each of the islands. For meals, we recommend going to the markets to buy fresh fruit, some bread and cheese. We can also order the dish of the day in the more informal restaurants, where the Cape Verdeans eat as well.

Restaurant dinners can range from 10 to 20 € per person.

Do I need a power adapter?

No. The plugs in Cape Verde are the same as those used in Europe so no adapters are required.

You can find more information in the sections of Frequently Asked Questions y Cape Verde Islandsor in the travel tips document available in your online folder.
