A revolution against deforestation
The context
Praia, the capital of Cape Verde is located in the south of the island of Santiago, in the Leeward Islands of the Creole archipelago. This area is very arid with an increasingly dry climate due to climate change. In this context, the areas surrounding the center of Praia become the most disadvantaged of the islands with little possibility to work in agriculture.

Against this backdrop, one day a local policeman, farmer and environmental activist decided to start a green revolution to fight deforestation. Emileno is the ideologist and executor of this transformative project, Cidade Verde.
The project
The Cidade Verde initiative starts from and for these most disadvantaged neighborhoods. The main objective is to provide the inhabitants of these areas with natural and sustainable resources such as fruit trees. In this way they have a complement to their diet. All these actions have another consequence, no less important, which is the fight against desertification. By planting fruit trees, we fix the soil, minimizing erosion.
The experience
At the agreed time, our driver and oicaboverde guide will pick us up at the hotel in Praia. Then we will go to the outskirts of Praia, where Emileno will be waiting for us. After receiving us and explaining first hand the reality of the neighborhood we are visiting, we will go to the planting point. It will be at this point where we will proceed to actively plant the fruit tree.
Positive impact
Oi Cabo Verde contributes to the Cidade Verde project by promoting and supporting its development. In addition to participating actively, the economic contribution of each traveler goes entirely to the project.
